Livestock Grazing Limited and its subsidiary Livestock Procurement Limited (together, Livestock Grazing Group, we, us, our) are committed to protecting your privacy.

This privacy statement (Statement) explains how we collect, hold, share and use your personal information in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ) (Privacy Act) and all other applicable privacy laws.

This Statement applies to personal information collected by the Livestock Grazing Group:

  • when you visit or interact with the Alpine Pastures Group website at https://www.alpinepasturesgroup.com/ (the Website);

  • when you engage directly with us in connection with our livestock grazing services; and

  • indirectly via third-party providers (e.g. livestock financiers, stock agents) in connection with our livestock grazing services.

This Statement does not apply to:

  • personal information the Livestock Grazing Group collects and holds about its employees, contractors, or other personnel; or

  • collections of personal information in connection with the farming and horticulture businesses referenced on the Website (and operated by entities outside of the Livestock Grazing Group). This Statement applies solely to the information handling practices of the Livestock Grazing Group.

We may need to update this Statement from time to time. If any change is material, we will use reasonable endeavours to notify you, usually by prominently posting a notice of those changes on the Website.

In this Statement:

  • applicable privacy laws means the Privacy Act together with all other data privacy laws applicable to our processing of your personal information;

  • personal information has the meaning given in applicable privacy law, generally meaning identifiable information about you; and

  • where we refer to processing your personal information, we mean all activities relating to our use of that personal information, from its collection through to its storage and disposal and everything in between.

Collecting your personal information

The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us (e.g. whether you have contracted with us to graze livestock on your property or have simply submitted a general enquiry to us via the Website).

Personal information you provide to us directly

We collect your personal information so that we can perform our services, facilitate our engagement and meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We may collect personal information directly from you:

  • when you contact us via the contact details provided on the Website or email us or otherwise engage with us directly (by email, telephone or otherwise);

  • when you complete an online application form for our livestock grazing program; and/or

  • if you are a Livestock Grazing Group client, when you:

    • apply to partner with the Livestock Grazing Group to graze livestock on your property; or

    • send any communication to us in relation to our livestock grazing program or grazing contract arrangements.

The information you provide to us directly may include:

  • your name, date of birth, email address, telephone number, postal address, and/or communication preferences;

  • details of your property where stock will or may be grazed;

  • information contained in, or relating to, any communication that you send to us or that we send to you; and

  • other information relating to your livestock grazing application.

If you choose not to provide us with your personal information, then we may not be able to consider and process your livestock grazing application or otherwise provide our services to you.

Personal information collected automatically

The Website may use cookies, third party analytics and similar technologies to ensure core service functionality and help us understand how the Website is used.

We currently use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors engage with the Website and to improve its functionality and content. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your use of the Website, such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on those pages, the device and browser you use, and your approximate location. This information is aggregated and used to generate reports on website activity for us. Some of this information may be processed by Google on servers located outside New Zealand in accordance with Google's privacy practices. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, and additional information about how Google collects and processes data is available here.

Most web browsers will allow you to set some control over cookies in your browser settings. This includes deleting them from your browser or disabling them altogether. If you do disable cookies, some functionality or features of our Website may not function properly or be fully available.

Personal information collected indirectly

While most of the personal information about you we collect will be directly from you, in some cases, we may collect personal information about you from other sources instead of directly from you. Below are examples of the situations where we may collect personal information indirectly:

  • stock financiers: if you are a prospective grazier or guarantor of a grazier applying for our livestock grazing services, then we may collect information about you from our third-party stock financiers, including Heartland Bank for the purposes of processing the relevant application;

  • stock agents: if you are a prospective grazier applying for our livestock grazing services, then we may collect information about you from third-party stock agents to process your application and confirm your suitability for our livestock grazing services;

  • applicants for grazing services: if you are a landlord of a property over which our livestock grazing services are to be provided, or a guarantor supporting a client's application for grazing services, an applicant may share your contact information with us for us to process their application for our livestock grazing services;

  • your authorised representatives: where we have your authorisation, or to the extent otherwise permitted by law, we may collect your personal information from your third party representatives, including your professional advisers.

Where we collect personal information about you from a third party, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of the collection, and its purposes, unless an exception under the Privacy Act applies.

Where you provide us with any personal information about another individual (e.g. if you submit a livestock grazing application that includes their personal information), you must have that individual's consent to do so. By providing us with another individual's personal information, you represent and warrant that you have that individual's permission to provide that information to us.

Why and how we use your personal information

We collect your personal information primarily to facilitate the provision of our livestock grazing program and to otherwise facilitate our relationship with you. We may use your personal information:

  • application processing: where you have completed a livestock grazing application, we may use your personal information to consider your application and determine whether you will be a suitable Livestock Grazing Group client;

  • credit support: where your livestock grazing application has been accepted, we may use and share your personal information with our financiers to support a credit application and our grazing arrangements with you;

  • account servicing: where you are a Livestock Grazing Group client, we may use your personal information to manage your livestock grazing arrangements, provide you with information in respect of your grazing and generate invoices and other payment-related documentation in connection with such grazing;

  • provision of livestock grazing: where you disclose information to us, we may use that information to enhance and improve our services;

  • client engagement: to monitor and respond to your inquiries, keep records of our correspondence with you and to support your livestock grazing arrangements;

  • operations: to operate, improve and enhance our services and the Website;

  • record keeping and reporting: to create and maintain our databases, back-up copies of our databases and business records generally;

  • security: in order to detect and/or prevent any illegal activity that may threaten us, or our operations;

  • risk management: where necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims. We may also use your personal information where necessary for the purposes of obtaining or maintaining insurance, managing risks and/or obtaining professional advice; and

  • consent and compliance: where we otherwise have your consent, in accordance with that consent, or to the extent otherwise permitted by applicable privacy law.

Disclosure of your personal information

We may disclose your personal information:

  • to third parties who assist and enable us to provide our services to you. These third parties may include cloud hosting providers, analytics providers, communication tools and payment processors. These third parties are required to keep your information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which we are permitted to use it;

  • stock financiers: if you apply to enter a grazing arrangement with us, we will disclose certain information regarding your application to our stock financiers to process your application and facilitate our grazing arrangements. Further information regarding our disclosure of your personal information to our stock financiers will be disclosed to you as part of the application process;

  • to regulators, law enforcement bodies, government agencies, courts or other third parties (such as legal or other professional advisors) where it is necessary to comply with any applicable law or regulation, or to exercise, establish or defend our legal rights; and

  • where the disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by law.

Some of the third parties to whom we disclose your personal information may be located outside of New Zealand. Where any disclosure is to an overseas third party, we will only make that disclosure in accordance with the requirements for overseas transfers of personal information under applicable privacy law.

Protecting your personal information

We will not keep your personal information for longer than is reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Statement. We are committed to keeping your personal information as safe and secure as possible and we follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us.

In the event of a privacy breach that we believe has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in accordance with our obligations under the Privacy Act.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act, you have certain rights in connection with your personal information, including rights to request access to, and correction of, your personal information. These rights are subject to certain limitations and exceptions as set out in the Privacy Act.
